At last: the GanttChart web part with installer and user friendly editor
Many people have (politely) asked me to provide an installer with the Gantt chart web part, because they were not comfortable with editing configuration files and placing dll files in the GAC manually.
Over the past half year, I have been promising these people that I was working on it, but that it would take some time. Well: rejoice! I have just uploaded the MSI installer for the web part. And what's even better: the part now includes an editor that lets you pick lists, views and fields from lists in stead of having you type in all of these names. I hope that this will make the part useable for a much wider audience:
Oh, one more thing: I also added a new feature: by selecting the Link To Item option, the bars in the chart will be clickable and will link to the detail page of the clicked item.

I put the web part in a page inside a Doc Lib... the links arn't working...
They leads me to http://SERVER/DOCLIBNAME/LISTS/LISTNAME/DISPFORM.ASPX?ID=XXX. The correct is http://SERVER/LISTS/LISTNAME/DISPFORM.ASPX?ID=XXX
To next version, may be... ;-)

Does this work on Document Libraries? It appears to work fine if I create a dummy tasks list with some data but if I link it to an exisitng document library, I just get a rather large empty web part.
Great Web Part! The installer worked perfectly.
I'm having the seemingly popular problem where the tool is not aware of anything other than the "Title" and "Attachments" columns in my lists. This is true even when adding other date-formatted columns to the view. Is there a common fix to this problem or alternatively, is there a way that I can manually type in the field names VS using the items in the dropdown?
Thanks, once I get this working, I intend to spread the word!

Ok I have no problem installing the webpart...everything appears to be working OK. When I modify the webpart I am given option to choose a list and then the specific columns of data....
Then when I click on apply my ie process shoots up to 100% and locks up my browser!???
Upsets me because I dont see any other posts with this issue...I am running IE7.
Hopefully you get this and have a solution because it would be really awesome to get this working!
Thanks a million in advance, it looks like its going to be a very useful webpart.

@Micheal:
Sorry to hear this. I have been using IE7 for a while now and I haven't noticed this behavior. It may be related to the way IE7 deals with VML graphics. Do you ever have similar problems with sites like Google Maps (they use VML for plotting driving directions, etc...).

I have successfully installed the Gantt chart web part. If I create a new task list and hook it up it works great but when I try to connect it to a previously created Task list (from the Project Team template) I get the following error:
----------------
Error
An unexpected error has occurred.
Web Parts Maintenance Page: If you have permission, you can use this page to temporarily disable Web Parts or remove personal settings. For more information, contact your site administrator.
Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services.

This occurs when I select my All Tasks view.
Any insight on what I need to change in my view to make it work?
Thanks,

This looks like it has great potential, but I've been fighting with it all day and it doesn't seem to actually read the view that I select but rather the original view generated when the Task list is created. The default views created by SP for a Task don't include the Start Date as one of the columns and going in and adding (checking) Start Date doesn't cause it to show up in the Gantt web part configuration form. I'm sure you didn't hard-code the view columns so I don't understand what's up. Please help!!
We sucessfully added your web part to MOSS 2007. Do you think that you could add a percent complete sometime in the future?
Hi, is there a possibility to get your sourcecode? I want to enhance the Webpart to import data from external databases. Maybe you could give me a hint how to solve this problem? I would insert a database connection and import the List from a none-sharepoint-source. Is this possible with your solution?

I installed the webpart using the installer and finally succeded in installing it on my Windows 2003 server, but I don't understand, in the properties of the webpart I have no list displayed, all the listbox existing in the properties are void...I need help. One last thing, I have a french Operating system, I don't know if it's important to mention it. Many thanks for your help
I too installed using the installer onto sharepoint 2.0 running on Windows 2003 Small Business Server. When trying to view, just get message "No list found with name"
Hi,
I was unable to get GanttChart to work with an existing list...the only 2 fields displayed were Attachments and Title (similar to problems listed by others). I recreated the list from scratch and it started working. However, after I added all of the various views I needed, it stopped working again with the symptoms listed above. In additon, this error was show in the web part "Start field Start_x0020_Date is not known. Try one of these: Attachments, LinkTitle".
This is a great tool. Hoping you can provide some assistance in troubleshooting the error and how I might fix it.
Thanks again.
